Midday slot
–
Two-hour session, every SaturdayTwo tables, grouped by level
In each slot our two tutors run one table each, with a maximum of six students per table. Students are placed by the level they are working at, not by age or school year, so everyone at the table is working on the same kind of problem.
- Grades 1–5Foundation & lower Higher. Securing the fundamentals and pushing for a strong pass.
- Grades 6–9Higher tier. Stretching towards the top grades and harder problem-solving.
The free assessment tells us which table is right. Students move up as they progress.
What a session looks like
The GCSE curriculum provides the framework; each student’s gaps guide the teaching. We check understanding in every session and use exam-style questions and past papers throughout, so nothing is left to the last minute.
If your child is struggling with a topic at school or has a test coming up, we fold that into their session. Parents receive a monthly progress report.
We cover Foundation and Higher tiers for AQA, Edexcel and OCR, for any year group, including resitters.
Sessions run through school holidays too, except bank holiday weekends and the Christmas break. Students just need a pen, pencil, ruler and a scientific calculator; we provide everything else.
Opening offer for our first 24 students
£10 per hour £20 per two-hour session
Pay £80 in cash when you enrol. This covers your first four Saturdays. There is no registration fee, no books to buy, and the assessment is free. Card payments are coming soon.
Our first 24 students keep this price for as long as they stay with us. When those places are filled, the price for new students will go up, and we will always tell you the price before you enrol.
How it works
The Strand Method
Four simple steps, repeated every Saturday.

A short maths test of about 40 minutes. It is free, and there is no obligation.
We find the gaps
We show you, topic by topic, what your child can do and what is missing.

Every Saturday in a small group. We check each topic has stuck before moving on.
Exam practice
Real past papers and exam questions, so they are ready for the summer.

About us
Serious mathematicians, small tables, honest prices
Strand Tutors is an independent London tuition company set up by two King’s College London mathematics graduates who have each been tutoring for more than five years.
Our tutors
Tuition is delivered by First Class and Distinction mathematicians from King’s College London. Between us we have more than ten years of tutoring experience across Foundation and Higher tier GCSE Maths, and we know the topics where students most often lose marks. Both tutors are enhanced DBS-checked.
Why small groups
A table of six is small enough that nobody hides at the back and every student gets individual attention, but large enough that students see how others approach a problem. Grouping students by level means the whole table is working on the right kind of problem.
Why the price is low
We believe high-quality tuition should be within reach of more families. Our opening price reflects that, not a compromise on the teaching, the materials or the reports parents receive.
Our venue
We hire a classroom at King Solomon Academy on Saturdays. Strand Tutors is independent and is not affiliated with the school; students from any school are welcome.
When can my child start?
Now. Sessions run every Saturday and students can join any week once they have had their free assessment. Book the assessment using the form below and we will arrange a Saturday slot for it.
What happens at the free assessment?
It takes about 40 minutes and is held at King Solomon Academy on a Saturday between 10am and 2pm, while our sessions are running. Your child works through a short set of questions from across GCSE Maths so we can see exactly which topics are missing. Afterwards we show you their maths map. You are welcome to stay or to drop them off and collect them afterwards. There is no obligation to continue.
How much does it cost, and how do we pay?
£10 per hour, so £20 for each two-hour Saturday session. This is our opening offer for our first 24 students, and they keep this price for as long as they stay with us. You pay £80 in cash when you enrol, which covers the first four Saturdays. After that, you pay in cash at the start of each session until card payments are available. The assessment is free and there is no registration fee. See our terms and conditions for cancellations and missed sessions.
Do I choose the 10am or 12pm slot?
Yes. Both slots run every Saturday with both tutors present, so choose whichever suits your family. If a slot is full we will offer the other one or a place on the waiting list.
How are the groups organised?
Each slot has two tables with up to six students each. One tutor takes students working at grades 1 to 5, the other takes grades 6 to 9. Students are placed by the level they are working at, not by age, and move up as they progress.
Who is the tuition for?
Any student working towards GCSE Maths, in any year group from Year 7 to Year 11, plus resitters of any age. We cover Foundation and Higher tiers for AQA, Edexcel and OCR.
Are your tutors qualified and DBS checked?
Yes. Tuition is delivered by First Class and Distinction mathematicians from King’s College London, each with more than five years of tutoring experience. Both tutors are enhanced DBS-checked. Read our safeguarding statement.
Do parents receive progress updates?
Yes. Parents receive a monthly progress report covering what has been worked on, what has improved and what still needs attention. We are also happy to talk at drop-off or pick-up.
Where exactly is the venue and how do we get there?
King Solomon Academy, Penfold Street, London NW1 6RX. It is a few minutes’ walk from Edgware Road station (Bakerloo, Circle, District and Hammersmith & City lines) and about ten minutes from Marylebone station. We hire a classroom there on Saturdays and are independent of the school.
