Terms and conditions
These terms apply to tuition provided by Strand Tutors Ltd (“we”, “us”), company number 17416472, to the parent or carer who enrols a student (“you”). By booking a place, you agree to them. We have kept them short; if anything is unclear, ask us before you book.
1. The service
- We provide small-group GCSE Maths tuition on Saturdays at King Solomon Academy, Penfold Street, London NW1 6RX, in two-hour sessions: 10:00am–12:00pm and 12:00pm–2:00pm.
- Groups have a maximum of six students per table. Students are placed by the level they are working at, following a free assessment, and we may move a student to a different table as they progress.
- We hire the classroom from the school. Strand Tutors is independent of King Solomon Academy, which has no responsibility for our tuition.
2. Free assessment
The initial assessment is free and carries no obligation. Submitting the website form is an enquiry; the assessment is confirmed once we have spoken to you and agreed a Saturday time.
3. Fees and payment
- Our opening offer is £10 per hour, charged as £20 per two-hour session. It is available to our first 24 students only.
- Students who join on the opening offer keep it for as long as they remain continuously enrolled. Students who join after the first 24 places are filled pay the fee we tell you before you enrol.
- New students start with a block of four sessions, because that is the minimum period over which we can show meaningful progress. You pay £80 in cash when you enrol, which covers those four sessions. If one of them is cancelled with notice (see section 4), by you or by us, it moves to a later Saturday rather than being lost.
- After the first four sessions, fees are paid in cash at the start of each session until card payment is available, and you may stop at any time by telling us before the next Saturday.
- We give you a receipt for every payment. There are no registration, materials or assessment fees.
- We will give at least four weeks’ notice of any change to fees.
4. Cancellations and missed sessions
- If a student cannot attend, please tell us by WhatsApp, phone or email by 6:00pm on the Friday before the session. There is no charge for a session cancelled with this notice.
- A session missed without notice is not charged, but places are limited. If a student misses two sessions in a row without telling us, we may offer the place to another student on the waiting list.
- If we have to cancel a session, for example because the venue is unavailable, we will tell you as early as possible and you will not be charged. Where we can, we will offer an alternative session.
- Sessions do not run on bank holiday weekends or over the Christmas and New Year period. We will confirm the dates in advance.
5. Attendance, drop-off and collection
- Please bring students to the classroom at the start of the session and collect them at the end. Tutors are responsible for students only during the session.
- Tell us in advance if someone other than the usual parent or carer will collect the student, or if a student aged 14 or over may leave unaccompanied.
- Students should bring a pen, pencil, ruler and a scientific calculator. We provide all learning materials.
6. Behaviour
We expect students to treat tutors, other students and the venue with respect. If a student’s behaviour repeatedly disrupts the table we will speak to you first. If it continues, we may ask the student to leave the group; any sessions already paid for and not attended will be refunded.
7. What we do not promise
We will teach well, prepare carefully and report honestly. We cannot guarantee a particular grade, because results depend on the student’s effort, attendance and circumstances as well as our teaching.
8. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, our liability to you is limited to the fees you have paid us in the previous three months. We are not responsible for students’ personal belongings.
9. Personal information
We handle personal information as described in our privacy notice, and we look after students as described in our safeguarding statement.
10. Changes and complaints
We may update these terms and will tell enrolled families of any material change at least four weeks in advance. If you have a complaint, please contact us at info@strandtutors.co.uk or on 07443 921965 and we will respond within five working days.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales. Nothing in them affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
